Isaac's Music Lesson

For Isaac's Birthday, Grandma Hillary and Grandpa Ricky bought Isaac a music lesson, since he has been interested in learning how to play the drums and/or the guitar.

Miriam and I found a great place, Detroit School of Rock, and scheduled some time with the owner for Isaac to get a tour and "test-drive" some of the instruments.

The place has their own recording studio and stage, along with practice rooms.

As you can see from the pictures, Isaac was able to play the drums and an electric guitar. He also played the piano and some Timpani Drums, which he recognized from our trip to the orchestra.
Check out some more pictures and the video here.

Miriam's Birthday

During the day Isaac and Olivia took Mom to Makes Me Nervous (AKA: Max & Erma's )for the traditional Birthday Sundae. Mom was "allowed" to choose her own topping since she was "the Birthday Girl".

Then we went to Lita's for dinner to celebrate some more. Jeff and Natanya met us there and of course, there were decorations, a great dinner and cake!

For a few more pictures from the day and some miscellaneous pictures from Miriam's cell phone click here.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra plays the Beatles

Sunday, the day after Valentine's day we all went to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) to see them perform Beatles Songs. The kids really got into it and were dancing and clapping. They actually had a band impersonating the Beatles in front of the Orchestra and were singing all of the songs. Since the kids are both fans of the Beatles they knew most of the songs...especially "Yellow Submarine".

Check out some old posts of Isaac singing Beatles songs.

Isaac also enjoyed naming all of the instruments. I think his favorite one was the french horn.

Isaac goes Ice Skating

Sunday morning Isaac and I went downtown to go ice skating. This was Isaac's first time and he was really excited. He has watched a few shows lately (Olivia and The Backyardigans) where the kids have been skating so he had been talking about it for a few days. He wanted to learn how to do a figure eight and jumps!

When we got downtown we parked by my office, walked around a bit inside GM and had lunch. Then we took the PeopleMover to the Cadillac Center station. Isaac was really interested in all of the station names and was following along on the map.

The skating rink was at Campus Marcius, when we arrived we rented our skates. Isaac wears a size 7 and the smallest size they had was a 9....so we went with a 9. As you can see the look pretty big on him, but he did not mind.

We were the first ones there and the ice was nice and fresh, he and I were both surprised at how slippery it was (I guess I forgot). After a few minutes Isaac got pretty comfortable standing and would hold on to the rail by himself. By the end, he was standing on his own and pushing a little bit. He really liked it!

After he took his skates off he fell asleep immediately in the stroller and slept the whole way home....we were both exhausted.

Here is a short video and a few more pictures. Unfortunately, it was just us, so we did not get any video of the two of us skating.
