Miscellaneous Pictures from January

Quite a bit happened in January. We went to Olivia's Kindergarten class' Breakfast and Books.  The kids and Dad did a "big" puzzle, 300 pieces.  We actually finished it, framed it and hung it in the playroom! The kids and Mom made cupcakes for Isaac's Birthday.  They had double-decker Oreos on top!   We got a piano....and the kids can already play a few songs.  Miriam and David learned how to paint (see our masterpeices at the link).  Not to mention all of the other January activities, most of which have their own posts.  The New Year is off to a fun and eventful start!

Isaac's First Cub Scout Pinewood Derby

 

Since joining Cub Scouts Isaac and I have done quite a lot of fun activities, but one of the most anticipated was the Pinewood Derby. Isaac and I worked on his car on and off for a few weeks.   We designed it by drawing on the wood where we planned to cut it with the band saws.  In the December Pack meeting, we had it cut.  Then we sanded it, painted it and decorated it.  Finally we added the wheels, the weights and the driver....who had light sabers of course!  We had a treasure chest in the back which held "gold" that could be added and removed to get the weight right up to the approved limit of 5oz.

 

Sunday January 27th was the race.  Each car ran 6 races and the speed was averaged to find a winner for each age group.  Isaac had a few 2nd and 3rd place finishes and ended up 10th for his age group!  He was very excited to finish in the "Top Ten" and have his name up on the screen!

The 2013 Science Fair

So today was the 2013 Eden Prairie District Science Fair.  The kids were very excited.  We packed up all of our materials and headed to the high school.  The kids got to their spots, set up their exhibits and got ready to talk with the judges.  Olivia was even interviewed by the Eden Prairie News! The reporter took her picture and the article was on their website(click on the link and navigate to the last picture).  She was in the real newspaper too!

After the exhibition, they received their certificates and took a picture with the superintendent.

Playing in the Snow

Today the kids went outside to play in the snow. They were trying to build a tunnel under the snow bank.  Just a few more pictures here...
